Enter into God's Rest

To Honor Jesus Christ, Glorify God, Encourage Believers, & Warn All
Est 12-13-2002 Chg ---

This information is offered with the hope that YOU can come to KNOW the Lord personally.

For he that is entered into his rest , he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.    -- Hebrews 4:10
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.     -- Hebrews 4:11

We are to labor to "enter into God's rest."  "Resting" in God is impossible for self reliant, proud people.   If His yoke is easy and His burden is light, why are so many of us working so hard?   Why are we so burdened by duty, especially Christian duty? This burden can not be the fruit of the spirit. Except ye become as a little child, you can not enter into God's kingdom. Children depend on their father. Being in God's Kingdom is being in the spiritual realm where  all outward measures are abandoned  so we can "wait on the Lord."  If you are not "waiting on the Lord" and have not "entered into His rest", you are not bearing spiritual fruit, but are struggling in the FLESH.  Why is this?

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. -- John 12:24

Pride keeps us from giving up the FLESH.   FLESH is any and all self-initiated work .  The question is what is the SOURCE of what you do?  The question is NOT what you do.  Do your actions, thoughts, viewpoints come from self or from God?  The answer to this questions tells us if we have entered into God's rest.  The FLESH is not just "bad things"; the FLESH is all things initiated by self, even "good."

Even Jesus told us to do nothing through natural means , the self.

Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself , but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.    -- John 5:19

He said, "I can of mine own self do nothing ." --John 5:30

The Lord has given us many examples of rejecting the "first man" (the natural man) and accepting the "second man" (the spiritual).
The first example was Adam and Christ.

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
-- 1 Corinthians 15:45
Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual
-- 1 Corinthians 15:46

The first man is of the earth , earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. -- 1 Corinthians 15:47

Another example is Ishmael and Isaac.

And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! -- Genesis 17:18

And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac : and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.    -- Genesis 17:19

Another example is Esau and Jacob.

And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.
-- Genesis 25:23

It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.    -- Romans 9:12
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.    -- Romans 9:13

And Saul and David:

And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.    -- 1 Samuel 16:1

And Abraham's circumcision:

And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.    -- Genesis 17:12

They circumcised NOT at the first birth, but, on the eighth day; thus, signifying the new birth, creature (just like the eight on the ark)
If the first man (birth) would ever to become acceptable, then, God would have not waited eight days.

Will the LORD not work with US in the SAME MANNER?

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. -- John 12:24

When wheat falls into the ground, the husk falls off in order to allow the seed to grow.

How do we "enter into God's rest?"  When it is done, how will we know?  To bear fruit a seed must be "buried."  Once you are "dead" and the FLESH is gone, the spirit of God can then be expressed in your "temple."  The very "life" of God Almighty (in you) can be imparted to others only after the husk has fallen to the ground.  Then, the "life" that all the believers need will emerge with no effort whatsoever.  To turn away from the FLESH to the spirit we must repent, that is, change our mind toward OUR VERY SELVES.  One thing - the way UP is found only by going DOWN.  The FLESH rebels at this constantly.  This "one thing" is contrary to everything in our society and contrary to the very nature of man himself. The problem is that everyone wants to be "resurrected" but nobody wants to "die."

Even Jesus did not resurrect Himself.  He "lay down" His life and the Father "raised Him."  Are we any different?
Lay down the self and the Almighty will raise you up.

For more on this topic, see this.

Most preaching/witnessing has no effect on the hearer; because it is only information.  "Information" has no power on its own.   There is no resurrection power in the speaker when the speaker has had no death experience with the Lord Jesus.  Resurrection is preceded by death.  No death, no resurrection.   No resurrection, no power.

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death   -- Philippians 3:10

In order to show Jesus, we must become a "seed".  We know what a seed does.
