The Bible is the Word of God

To Honor Jesus Christ, Glorify God, Encourage Believers, & Warn All

Updated 01-17-2003

This information is offered with the hope that YOU can come to KNOW the Lord personally.

Psalms 33:4   For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.
John 8:31-32   Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Commmentary: “The truth shall make you free is an oft-quoted phrase.  However, you are made free only “if ye continue in MY WORD.”   You can not get the truth except from the Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16-17   All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Commentary: All scripture is “given.”  Therefore, scripture must exist.  We shall see later that it must endure as well.  I know this point may seem strained, but, what is all the fuss about the “originals”?   There are NO “originals.”  You can purchase the Word of God at a store in English.  Either we believe it or we don’t.  If we don’t believe it, who, then, must of necessity become God?  Either we believe God has provided for us or we don’t.  If we don't act on the belief that God has provided for us in His written Word, then, we become God ourselves by deciding for ourselves what is truth.  Our deciding what is truth is a root problem in the Bible translation fiasco.  "This sounds better to me" is absurd to the extreme.  "This is more clear to me" presumes that your own fleshly mind can comprehend the depth of God.  The Bible says the "the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him, neither CAN he know them..."
2 Peter 1:20   Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.  For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Commentary: God moved men to write.  It was not their own doing.

1 Thessalonians 2:13   For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

Commentary: It is not the word of men, but, the word of God.

Proverbs 30:5   Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Commentary: Note that it does not say every paraphrased idea, but every word.

Titus 1:2   In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Commentary: It is impossible for God to lie.

Psalms 119:11   Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Psalms 119:12   Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.

Commentary: I dare you to pray this.

Psalms 119:16   I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

Commentary: I assure you that “delight” is a strong word that no amount of effort on our part is going to create.

1 Thessalonians 4:11   And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
2 Timothy 2:15   Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Commentary: If we do not know what it says, there is no way we can delight in it.

1 Peter 1:23   Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Commentary: We are actually BORN AGAIN BY THE WORD OF GOD which is ALIVE and is ETERNAL.

Luke 4:4   And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Commentary: Not by every “idea”, but every “word.”  Our living depends upon the word.

Luke 8:21   And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

Commentary: “Hear” means more than auditory perception, it means to receive.  “Do” means to act upon the belief in the Word.  These are the true “brethren.”

Luke 11:28   But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

Romans 10:17   So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Commentary: Faith is the result of receiving the Word of God.

2 Corinthians 2:17   For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

Commentary: The word corrupt might be interpreted as “make a trade of.”

2 Corinthians 4:2   But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

Commentary: There are people who handle the Word deceitfully.

Ephesians 6:17   And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Hebrews 4:12   For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Commentary: This sword is not to be used to kill.  Perhaps, not even defend.  However, it IS to be used on its intended target – ourselves.  It is a “discerner” and a “divid”er.   It shows us who we really are down deep.

Hebrews 11:3   Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Commentary: Things that exist came from and were “framed” by the Word of God.

2 Peter 3:5   For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
Commentary: The Word of God formed the heavens.  Since the Word was not written then, there must be a living Word as well as a written Word.

Psalms 33:6   By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

Hebrews 11:3   Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

1 John 2:14   I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

Commentary: The Word of God is IN the believer.  Therefore, it must be alive because we know the printed page is in front of us.

Psalms 12:6-7   The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.  Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
Commentary: Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, Syriac, Latin, German, English.  These seven(7) languages may be the languages in which the “words of the LORD” were “purified seven times.”  Nonetheless, the verse plainly says that the words of the LORD shall be preserved “forever.”  Since the words of the LORD existed in 1611 in the King James Bible and since they were to be preserved forever, then, they could not have appeared correctly for the first time in 1881, the year of the modern Bible’s “revision.”

John 17:17   Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Commentary: The process of sanctification is done via the word.

John 15:3   Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

Commentary: Cleansing is by the word.

Isaiah 28:13   But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
Commentary: The sanctification process is done piece by piece wherein we are (to paraphrase) “knocked down, tied up, and dragged” to our destination.

Isaiah 40:8   The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
Commentary: Forever is a long time.  It’s sorta like the Cajun said, when asked how long he wanted the “4x2s”.  “I want them a long time; I am making a porch.”

Isaiah 55:11   So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Commentary: The word accomplishes the purposes which God intended for it.

John 12:48   He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Commentary: The very thing unbelievers reject (“the word that I have spoken”) will be their judge.

2 Peter 1:19   We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Commentary: Rest assured that “the day star (will) arise in your hearts.”  That "day star" is Jesus Himself.

Revelation 19:13   And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

John 1:14   And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Commentary: Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate.

Isaiah 8:20   To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Commentary: If one contradicts the word, there is a serious problem.

Psalms 119:89    For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

Commentary: The Word of God is forever settled in heaven.

Psalms 119:105  Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Commentary: You can see where you are now (feet) and where you are going (path).

Psalms 119:103   How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Acts 20:32   And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

Psalms 138:2   I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

1 Peter 2:2   As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Commentary: You are a "babe" and you need milk.

Psalms 119:130   The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Psalms 119:133   Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
