to David on His 12th Birthday
To Honor Jesus Christ, Glorify
God, Encourage Believers, & Warn All
information is offered with the hope that YOU can come to KNOW the Lord
I am now 47 years old and though I have studied the Bible since I was a teenager, I am realizing more and more each day that I have just BEGUN to learn about the Lord and who He really is. This is because the Lord has chosen His own time and method of teaching me. I must confess that most of my true learning has come from MAKING MISTAKES that were rooted primarily in selfishness and going my own way (doing what IIIII want).
As I look back I can see more and more how foolish and self centered I was in the pursuit of things that matter very little.
One of the things that I would have liked to have had more of is someone telling me how to APPLY the TRUTHS of the Bible in the conduct of my normal daily living and the pursuit of life's goals. What I needed was someone to tell me HOW to make decisions and what was important.
Toward this end I have located these verses for you to HOLD CLOSELY so that you can walk in the right paths. I tell you these things because I love you. I want you to promise me that you will ask for help when making decisions (don't go alone). David, always be ready to be corrected - this is the difference between life and death.
DAVID, do not be conformed to the world's way of doing things, but, rather be changed by the Bible so that you can do GOD's WILL. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2
DAVID, God has already made the wisdom of the world to be foolish. Therefore, why follow it?
Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 1 Corinthians 1:20
DAVID, nobody will be able to glory in himself because God has chosen to bring man's doings to NOTHING. So, why should we wildly pursue the things of the world? But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29
DAVID, the spirit of the world is not what we have received.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 1 Corinthians 2:12
DAVID, we are not as smart as we think we are.
Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
1 Corinthians 3:18-20
DAVID, guard against feeling sorry for yourself, but, be ready to tell God you are sorry when you disobey Him.
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
2 Corinthians 7:10
DAVID, we are not any better than anyone else - we too walked like the world does.
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
DAVID, without Jesus Christ, we had NO HOPE annd with Him we have everything.
That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
DAVID, do not be enticed by men's philosophy, traditions, and the way the world thinks. They do not think like Jesus.
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Colossians 2:8
DAVID, if you join the world and gain everything, you can take NONE of with you when you leave.
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 1 Timothy 6:7
DAVID, never trust in wealth, money, or property, but in the LIVING GOD. He is our provider.
Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 1 Timothy 6:17
DAVID, you can trust God because it is IMPOSSIBLE for God to lie.
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Titus 1:2
DAVID, the Lord teaches us to deny the world and live in it keeping in mind that we are going somewhere else.
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
DAVID, if living right causes difficulties (and it will), remember that you have it EASY compared to some.
(Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
DAVID, you are the heir of God. What does the heir of God lack?
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? James 2:5
DAVID, live in the world and do not become a friend of the world. Become a friend of God instead and God will make you a friend to people.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. James 4:4
DAVID, do not set your heart on the world because it is not always going to be here. We waste a lot of energy chasing things our eyes see that we think we have to have. We are also too proud to realize this while we are chasing after foolishness.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
1 John 2:15-17
DAVID, if you take a stand for right, it is not going to be easy.
Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. 1 John 3:13
DAVID, do not worry about rejection by the world. God is greater than the world.
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 1 John 4:4-6
DAVID, we are actually strangers in the world - just pilgrims passing through.
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Hebrews 11:13
DAVID, watch what you pursue especially if you like it too much.
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 1 Peter 2:11
DAVID, to BEGIN knowing the truth you must RESPECT the LORD and love instruction.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7
DAVID, if friends ask you to do wrong, do not do it, no matter what it costs you.
My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. Proverbs 1:10
DAVID, if they keep doing wrong, stay away from them.
My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. Proverbs 1:15-16
DAVID, listen to God's correction. If you don't listen you are going to reap a problem - you are going to get what you pursue, a terrible thing in the long run. Those that get what they want do so by "turning away" from instruction and not listening. LISTEN more and talk less.
For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. Proverbs 1:29-33
DAVID, seek the knowledge of the LORD just like it was silver and gold and hid treasure. Then, He will GIVE it to you - the only way you will ever get it.
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for
understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
DAVID, do not think that you are so smart and know more than others, especially older people (who have seen more trouble). When you get a little older than you are now, do not pursue "strange" women. Respect other people's person and property. God made them for Himself not for you.
When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths: To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
Proverbs 2:10-16 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. Proverbs 2:19
DAVID, trust the LORD with everything you have. Do not do anything without first acknowledging that He is at work in your life trying to get your attention. Stop and look for His guidance and do not be so busing chasing things you want. Do not think you know everything already. This letter began with my saying that I have just BEGUN to learn. I mean this sincerely. So, if I am 47 and have just begun to learn, how is it that you already know everything? Be happy when you are corrected - this means He loves you.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. Proverbs 3:5-14
DAVID, we see all this sex on TV being presented as something worth doing. I know that you are young now, but the time will come when these words will help you if you embrace them as the truth they are.
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them. Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger; And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
DAVID, it may sound as if all I am telling you is what NOT to do. So, I want to tell you to work HARD in school, do the best you can, obey those in authority over you, pray, and read the Bible yourself. Remember, you can LEARN something from ANYBODY - so, do not be quick to reject what people say before they even finish talking. Be slow to speak and swift to hear. You have 2 ears and 1 mouth. Remember that God made you and He knows what He is doing - so go forward with confidence that all will end as it was intended (even though you will go forward and fall backward along the way). In the end God Himself will lift you up.
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. Ecclesiastes 9:10 (if the Lord does not come first).
DAVID, don't worry about the future, forget about yesterday (it is over and you can not change it). Be still and see what the LORD is doing TODAY.
THIS is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24
